ChamberWest Leadership Communication - Shop in Utah Webinar - WIB Online Event and more

Good morning!

Hope you are enjoying a very warm July!
As a reminder, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Department of Heritage and Arts will roll out several robust grant programs over the next few weeks. The Utah State Legislature allocated these CARES grants to help businesses and nonprofits on our road to economic recovery.

There is a Zoom webinar scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, where the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and the Department of Heritage and Arts will provide updated information and answer questions about several robust grant programs being rolled out over the next few weeks based on the CARES grants provided by the Utah State Legislature.  The grants are intended to help businesses and nonprofits on the road to economic recovery and include:

  • ‘Shop in Utah’ grant entices small business customers with incentives ($25 million)
  • ‘Safe in Utah’ grant reimburses or funds safe small business operations ($5 million)
  • Cultural Assistance grant benefits communities or artists affected by the pandemic ($9 million)
  • Commercial Rental Assistance (ComRent), provides rental relief to Utah small businesses. Significant changes were made in the session to simplify access and expand benefits.  ($40 million) Information on this grant is available at:  utahgoed.info/comrent.

This webinar will primarily focus on the ‘Shop in Utah’ $25 million grant, which will reimburse businesses and nonprofits for COVID-related business losses provided that 50 percent of their grant is passed on to their customers in the form of discounts. The Utah Office of Tourism will also present a marketing platform that will assist businesses in getting the word out about their discount offerings.

Take a few minutes and join others in taking the pledge to Stay Safe to Stay Open, https://stayopenutah.com/,  a statewide campaign intended to communicate the importance placed on addressing the health-related objectives identified to prevent and recover from the coronavirus while assisting businesses in our community as we work to strengthen our state’s overall economy.

By taking this pledge, you will be able to clearly identify your commitment to safety with colorful signage for display in windows and other key areas in your business, demonstrating you have taken a pledge to follow the state’s guidelines.   As you fill out the information to take the pledge, you are able to request printed collateral which can be picked up from our office or delivered to you by one of our staff members

As a reminder, the deadline to apply for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) was extended to August 8, 2020.  To take advantage of this great program you will need to reach out to an SBA approved lender as soon as possible. You can find a lender at: https://sba.gov/paycheckprotection/find…h.   You can learn more at: https://sba.gov/paycheckprotection.

Funding still remains for the Salt Lake County $40 million Covid-19 Small Business Impact Grant program.  This program offers up to $35,000 in a grant and is available for businesses located in Salt Lake County who were severely impacted by the public health order closures.  Check out the eligibility requirements and get your application soon before the funds are exhausted.  Information can be found at slco.org and a video tutorial is available at:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPCTuH3i9Ek .

Changes were made to the $40 million COVID-19 Commercial Rental Assistance Program for small businesses that lost revenue as a result of measures taken during the pandemic to minimize the public’s exposure to COVID-19.  For those who have already applied, there is no need to reapply as you will be automatically reconsidered and for those who qualify for additional grant money based on the changes, checks will be mailed beginning June 30th.  You can learn more at
