Third Quarter 2020 is turning into a wild ride for ChamberWest as we work to support the needs of our many members.  Providing access to resources to support business success remains a top priority.  With that in mind, there are several programs currently available to our members:

  1. Leadership Institute 2021 starts on January 27th and concludes on June 10th with ten sessions and limited availability.  This program is designed to challenge and engage leaders in professional personal growth while inspiring an entrepreneurial spirit in building a better community.  One of our participants from last year shared the following:  “The ChamberWest Leadership Institute program has been an experience that has allowed me to build my external partnerships with a group of professionals. One of the revelations that came to me through the program was that although we all serve the community or customers in different verticals, we are all working collaboratively in the community.  The program has given me insights to believe in myself that a title doesn't make me a leader, it’s what I do and who I am and how willing I am to be part of the community I serve.”  Applications are available at:  https://chamberwest.com/2021-leadership-institute .

  1. 3rd Annual Fall Business Conference – November 13th – 7:00 am – 11:45 am – Viridian Event Center.   This year’s conference has been “COVIDized”, with in-person attendance limited to 100 and respecting physical distancing and other health regulations.  The conference will feature Major General Jeff Burton, U.S. Army, Retired speaking on ”Thriving in the Extreme” and Robert Spendlove, the Economic and Public Policy Office at Zions Bank speaking on “Adjusting to Uncertainty”.   In addition, conference attendees will receive city/community updates from our three mayors – Mayor Dirk Burton, City of West Jordan, Mayor Kristie Overson, City of Taylorsville, and Mayor Ron Bigelow, West Valley City.  Sponsorships are available if interested and registration is available at:  https://chamberwest.com/events/details/annual-fall-business-conference-1150?calendarMonth=2020-11-01.  We are also offering a virtual attendance option.

In addition to the above programs, the City of Taylorsville, utilizing CARES Act funding, has contracted with ChamberWest to administer a Taylorsville Shop Local Program that is in the process of being launched and is expected to conclude mid-December.  This program provides $30 in “Shop Local Bucks” to Taylorsville households to spend with participating businesses in Taylorsville that have been financially impacted by COVID and the ensuing regulations.

We’ve recently received word that we were awarded a grant as part of the Salt Lake County Community Partners Grant Program. Through this grant, ChamberWest will provide a limited number of marketing grants for small business members who have been financially impacted by COVID and the resulting regulations.  Look for more information in the next week or two as this program is finalized with the understanding that it concludes on November 30th

ChamberWest is proudly participating in the Safe to Stay Open Pledge statewide effort.  The statewide campaign aims to raise consumer confidence and instill a culture of safety throughout the workplace so businesses can remain safe and open.  Businesses taking the pledge will receive digital and physical collateral including a seal of approval and have their business showcased in a Stay Safe to Stay Open directory which serves as a type of Angie’s List for companies who commit to remain safe and open.  “This is the quality of Utah — innovation and engagement — and I am here today to ask all of our business leaders across the state to sign the pledge. It is a voluntary commitment to follow basic public health guidance,” said Governor Herbert. “We do not want to compel, we do not want to resort to restrictions and regulations. We simply ask that everyone go to stayopenutah.com and join us in this important initiative,” said Governor Herbert.

As a reminder, if you have an employee(s) required to quarantine, you can access the $2 million Small Business Quarantined Employee Grant program. The program helps small business employers (less than 50 employees) continue to pay employees a maximum of 40 hours per week for a period of up to two calendar weeks who are required to quarantine or isolate due to a positive COVID-19 test or exposure to someone who has tested positive.   Learn more about the Small Business Grant

We are proud to serve as the business voice in West Valley City, Taylorsville, and West Jordan.  Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if we can be of service.  Hope you all have a productive week!  Be positive, find and embrace the good, and stay safe.  Thanks much!
