Good afternoon!

There is so much excitement in the air with school graduations, continued easing of COVID restrictions, and plans for long weekends or summer vacations.  As we continue to talk with businesses, the number one concern is lack of workforce with many job openings.  A good question raised is if we are in an labor force crisis.  Last week during our Legislative Affairs Committee Meeting, we learned from Nate McDonald, Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Workforce Services, that we have a labor force participation rate of 67.1%.  Prior to the pandemic, he shared the rate was 68.4% and each 1% is equal to approx. 20,000 people.  On the topic of employee attraction and retention, we hope you are able to join us for an in-person Professional Development Series event “I Can’t Find Any Employees, Now What?”, scheduled for June 22ndwith registration information provided below.

The ChamberWest Legislative Affairs Committee recently launched a Business Theft Task Force which includes business, civic, and law enforcement leaders as we explore how to address the growing rates of theft impacting our businesses.  We want to thank Senator Karen Mayne for working with us from a legislative perspective on any needed legislation to address this problem.

Next week is the 2021 Annual Awards Gala, scheduled for Tuesday, June 15th from 5:00 – 8:30 pm at the Maverik Center.  We have a limited number of individual tickets still available but expect a sell out for the exciting event.  It’s not too late to join an expected 400 attendees as we recognize Dan England, Chairman of C.R. England.  On the evening of the gala, we will be recognizing all award finalists with the winner in each category announced that night.  If you have the opportunity, join me in congratulating our finalists!
