President's Message

It’s hard to believe that 2020 is just tomorrow! Happy New Year! The ChamberWest Board of Directors and staff want you to know that you can depend on us to continue our work to strengthen and promote the shared interests of our business community. In addition to our current programming, there are a few new programs in the works to support our businesses.

One of the new programs is a westside community wide job fair to be held towards the end of April. As I’m out talking with businesses, the concern I hear most often is the need to attract and retain a workforce. There are more jobs than there are people to fill them. ChamberWest is in a strong position with our Education and Workforce Development Committee, the many businesses in our community, the Granite School District and Jordan School Districts, the Salt Lake Community College, and Utah Department of Workforce Services, all working together to connect employers with potential employees.

The goal is to draw 1,000 students and/or family members to a semi-annual event rolling between various high schools within our footprint as we work to connect students and their families to businesses in the area. We want businesses talking to students about how to gain the skills needed to interview well and to plan for a current or future job in various industries. There are many paths available to success! You may find it an opportunity to plant seeds for students to consider different career fields, find a mentoring opportunity and or provide some career coaching. Please take a minute to participate in the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FH83SRS.

Upcoming program and event highlights include:

  • Women in Business Professional Growth Series, Tuesday, January 14th, 11:30 – 1:00 pm;
  • Legislative Affairs Committee Meetings, Thursday, January 9th; 17th, 23rd, 30th;
  • 2nd Friday Casual Lunch, join the ChamberWest President/CEO for casual conversation on issues related to business on January 10th;
  • Business Connections, Wednesday, January 15th, 3:30 – 5:00 pm;
  • Board of Governors Meeting, Thursday, January 16th;
  • Annual Awards Gala, celebrating business success, Thursday, February 20th 5:00 – 8:30 pm.

Thank you for your continued investment in ChamberWest! We value your membership, your involvement, and your insights. Please reach out to us with any recommendations on programs or communications or if you need any information. Thanks much!
