Nominate a Deserving Business for Annual Awards Gala - President's Message

There are member businesses doing amazing things and celebrating wins of all types in our ChamberWest footprint.  We’re looking for those stories and hope you will take a few minutes to either nominate a deserving company or self-nominate if you believe you are doing great things in your industry and in our community.  It’s easy to submit a nomination in one of our five award categories:  Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Best Place to Work, Best New Business, and Volunteer of the Year.   Click here to open the fillable form to submit your nomination.
The Annual Awards Gala for 2020 is themed ‘Calling All Troops – Operation ChamberWest’ and is scheduled for Thursday, February 20th at the Maverik Center.  If you are a business that sees the benefit of taking advantage of the sponsorship opportunities for this 400+ person premier event, please contact the chamber office for additional information.  Our Hall of Fame Award Winner for 2020 is Ron Bigelow who is currently serving as the 8th Mayor of West Valley City, and previously as the Director of the Office of Planning and Budget for the State of Utah and as a member of the Utah State House of Representatives for nine terms.
ChamberWest has been working with the City of West Jordan on expected water rate increases for businesses in 2020/2021.  We have been a strong advocate for businesses having a seat at the table to explore available options as the city needs to again address water rate costs and infrastructure requirements while protecting and supporting business success.

In preparation of the 2020 Legislative Session, the ChamberWest Legislative Affairs Committee continues their work as 2020 priority documents are expected to be finalized at Thursday’s meeting.  Subcommittees include: Air Quality, Business and Government Relations, Economic Development and Business Sustainability, Education and Workforce Development, Healthcare, Housing, Transportation, Water Conservation and Development and Tax Reform.  The latest on the tax reform is an expected Tax Restructuring and Equalizing Task Force Meeting on December 9th and talk of a Special Session on December 12th.  There is great work happening with many business leaders working to ensure our businesses are well represented.
Upcoming program and event highlights include:

  • Legislative Affairs Committee Meeting, Thursday, December 5th;
  • Leadership Institute Session, Thursday, December 12th;
  • 2nd Friday Casual Lunch, join the ChamberWest President/CEO for casual conversation on important issues related to business on December 13th;
  • Board of Directors Meeting, Thursday, December 19th.
As you are out and about this holiday season, please remember the importance of shopping local as ringing the local cash register can make a huge difference in the success of a local business!  Thank you for your continued investment in ChamberWest!  We value your membership, your involvement, and your insights.  Please reach out to us with any recommendations on programs or communications or if you need any information. Thanks much!
