  • Granger-Hunter Improvement District was organized in 1950 and provides potable water and wastewater collection services for the residents of West Valley City and part of Taylorsville City. The District employs 74 highly-trained individuals serving a population of approximately 120,000.

  • During 2016, the District has continued its focus on the 10 attributes of an effectively managed utility, which is part of the District’s strategic plan. These attributes drive the District to do more with less and encourages all to be more proactive in responding to our customer and facility needs as well as making sure that the District is not just doing things right…but it is doing the right things. As a result, the District has seen a dramatic decline in the number of broken water lines and has very few wastewater back-ups. This is a very positive result for our customers, the environment and the community as a whole.

The District provides a vital, reliable, life-sustaining service that allows the area to thrive and be healthy. As an example, Granger-Hunter is taking steps towards helping with critical rebuild of the Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility.  The District is working with the other six entities that rely on Central Valley to treat the customer’s wastewater to make more than $250 million in improvements to the plant in the next few years.  The Central Valley plant is more than 30 years old with several systems and pipelines that are at the end of their useful life.  In addition, changes to the facility must be made so it can comply with the Utah Division of Water Quality’s recently adopted rules that require wastewater facilities to remove higher levels of phosphorus and other nutrients from effluent discharge.

At Granger-Hunter, we know that water is a precious resource. It is important to always look for how we can use it more efficiently and clean it up more effectively. Despite the challenges, the District will continue to rise above and continue its vision to improve quality of life today while creating a better tomorrow.
